About WaveBaffle

What is WaveBaffle?

WaveBaffle is a floating wave attenuator: an engineered wave energy dissipation system that absorbs and dissipates wave energy instead of reflecting it, creating calmer water while helping protect docks, boats and shoreline. It is made by Wake and Wave Solutions, LLC, a Big Thunder Marine company.

How is WaveBaffle different from a traditional breakwater?

Traditional fixed breakwaters and seawalls reflect wave energy back into the basin, where it collides with incoming waves and keeps the water churning. WaveBaffle takes a different approach: it progressively dissipates wave energy through controlled water flow instead of bouncing it back, for calmer, more usable water and longer-lasting waterfront structures.

Who designed WaveBaffle, and where is it made?

WaveBaffle was conceived by Fred Ross and engineered by Kyle Gerber, P.E., developed with Big Thunder Marine Group and Shoreside Engineering. It was designed at Lake of the Ozarks, and it is designed, tested and produced in the United States.

Performance & Engineering

How much wave energy does WaveBaffle reduce?

Up to 85%. The published figures are up to 85% in 2 to 3 ft waves, up to 80% in 3 to 4 ft waves, up to 75% in 4 to 5 ft waves and up to 70% in 5 to 6 ft waves, verified through CFD simulation and field testing. What you see at your own waterfront depends on the site and its configuration, which is why every system is configured for its location.

What is WaveBaffle made of, and how long does it last?

Hot-dip galvanized steel, certified to ASTM A123 for corrosion resistance, so it stands up to harsh marine environments. It has a 30+ year design life with minimal maintenance required, a structural load capacity of 15,000 lbs/ft and a temperature range of -40°F to 140°F.

How does the three-stage baffling system work?

Each WaveBaffle section houses three plates in series. The outer plate intercepts incoming waves and redirects energy downward through perforations, the middle plate creates turbulent flow that breaks up the wave structure, and the inner plate captures the remaining energy so only calm water passes through to the protected area.

How has WaveBaffle been tested?

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling validates how the baffling geometry dissipates wave energy and reduces rebound force and wave amplitude. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) shows safe performance under a 5 mph design velocity, with stress levels of 12 to 20 ksi, well below the 50 ksi yield. Field installations are also monitored across multiple water bodies and conditions.

Projects & Applications

Who is WaveBaffle for?

Marinas and yacht clubs, developers and waterfront contractors, waterfront resorts, HOAs and private lake homes, municipalities, utilities and regulators, and public docks and harbors. From resort marinas to residential coves, it adapts to the environment it protects.

What sizes does WaveBaffle come in?

WaveBaffle is modular: 20' and 40' sections join end to end to protect any length of shoreline. Each system is custom-configured based on site-specific wave dynamics, fetch distances, boat traffic and environmental constraints.

Is WaveBaffle environmentally friendly?

It is designed for low environmental impact. WaveBaffle allows natural water circulation and marine life movement, and uses no chemicals and no microplastics.

Working With Us

How do I get a quote for my waterfront?

Send us the details through our contact form: your organization, project location and what you want to protect. Notes on where the waves arrive, and the times or traffic when movement is worst, help a lot. Our engineering team will help design the right WaveBaffle configuration for your marina, dock, HOA or waterfront development and follow up with next steps.

Can you provide engineering documentation for permitting?

Yes. Full engineering documentation is available for regulatory review and permitting.

How do I become a WaveBaffle dealer?

WaveBaffle is building a national network of authorized dealers, installers and waterfront service partners, and suits marina service companies, dock and seawall builders, and engineering and environmental firms. Dealers get onboarding and certification, engineering and installation guides, sales and marketing resources and lead referrals by region. Apply through our Become a Dealer page and our dealer program team will follow up.

Something we haven't covered?

Tell us about your marina, dock, HOA or waterfront site and our engineering team will follow up with next steps.
